EAA Homebuilder Activities at AirVenture

BUILDERS EDUCATION CENTER
If you dream about building your own airplane, or if you have a set of plans or a kit at home, you need to visit the EAA Builders Education Center.

EAA Technical Counselors and Flights Advisors are on hand to answer your questions about choosing, building or flying experimental aircraft. EAA Technical Counselors are experienced aircraft builders and restorers who volunteer to pass on their experiences to fellow EAA members. EAA Flight Advisors are experienced pilots that have successfully completed first flights of amateur built aircraft and want to pass this knowledge along to other EAA members.

FORUMS
Learn hints on selecting a project
Every day from 8:30 in the morning until 8:15pm at night forums are presented on almost every topic in homebuilding and aviation in general. You can hear from the experts about specific designs, welding, test flying, designing, regulations, how to get started in homebuilding, etc. A complete list of forums will be available at a later date.

HOMEBUILDERS DINNER
This is a casual event where fellow Homebuilders can do a little hangar flying and enjoy some great food and camaraderie. The dinner will once again be Thursday from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the EAA Nature Center and be catered by La Sure’s Restaurant. Tram service to the Nature Center from Homebuilders Headquarters will start at 5 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance at Homebuilders Headquarters.

HOMEBUILDERS HANGAR
Homebuilders Hangar, supported by Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co., is the multi-purpose hub for the homebuilt aircraft community at AirVenture. The building, located just north of Aces Cafe in the former NASA pavilion, is home to daily "Homebuilts in Review" sessions that feature aircraft homebuilders or designers presenting information next to their aircraft and answering questions from the audience. A new display at Homebuilders Hangar will recognize and honor all past Homebuilt Grand Champions, all of whom represent the peak of homebuilt innovation and craftsmanship dating back to EAA's first convention in 1953. It also serves as a social gathering spot for homebuilders, where they can get information as well as meet EAA staff and EAA Homebuilt Aircraft Council members. Homebuilders can showcase their aircraft projects on the "What We're Building" board, giving homebuilders a chance to connect with other builders and get questions answered, or post an advertisement and survey the "For Sale" board that features homebuilt projects, aircraft, parts, and components.

HOMEBUILDERS HEADQUARTERS
Stop at the Homebuilders Headquarters building to register your homebuilt, receive your Showplane Mug and I Brought My Homebuilt patch. We offer “one stop shopping” so you can purchase camping, wristbands, programs, etc. If you’re looking for a specific homebuilt design, we can print you a list of, say, all the Hatz Biplanes with row number so you can track them down.

HOMEBUILT REVIEW
Homebuilts will be flying in review at AirVenture on two separate days. If you want to participate, you can get an application form from Homebuilders Headquarters during AirVenture. For more information contact Homebuilt Review Chairman Garry Kingma at
janet.kingma@sympatico.ca or 705-322-0837.

JUDGING
All EAA members can enter their homebuilt aircraft in the judging competition. Simply tell the volunteer when you register your aircraft at Homebuilders Headquarters that you would like your aircraft judged. For more information see the
Official EAA Judging Standards Manual

SPECIAL PARKING FOR HOMEBUILTS
Homebuilders Headquarters will again have special parking for prior Grand Champions, Auto Engine Aircraft, Homebuilts over 20 years old, and for those homebuilt aircraft that have over 1,000 hours of flight time. If you have any questions, please contact Aviation Services at 920-426-4821 or
info@eaa.org by July 8 to take advantage of the special parking.

HOMEBUILT CAMPING
Located on the Convention site. Limited to Experimental Amateur-Built aircraft camping only. MUST BE AN EAA MEMBER TO CAMP. Homebuilt camping rate is $22 per night. Shower facilities, portable toilets and access to food outlets. No vehicles or pets allowed. Aircraft in this area must be tied down. NO PRE-REGISTRATION - THREE DAY MINIMUM ASSESSED.

WELCOME WAGON
One of the special "perks" for homebuilders who fly their aircraft to EAA AirVenture is getting chauffeured from their airplanes to the Homebuilders Headquarters in an EAA Welcome Wagon. Homebuilders Headquarters volunteers work in four-hour shifts, running from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. beginning the Friday before convention. They ferry arriving homebuilders from their planes to the headquarters, where they can do everything from register their airplane to secure their campsites. Then they drive the builders to their campsites, transportation centers, and other places. Call Homebuilders Headquarters and ask for the Welcome Wagon 920-230-7799.
