"LEAVE YOUR MARK" PERMANENTLY IN OSHKOSH
What has the Oshkosh experience meant to you over the years! For many of us, the annual trek to Oshkosh is a must - to meet old friends, recharge our "batteries," explore what's new, get excited by the innovations brought forward, see every type of aircraft and aviation accessory available, shop, volunteer, relax, share stories ... the reasons we come back are our own! But, wow! As July closes in, the excitement grows.

Since 1970, this pilgrimage to "Mecca" became focused upon Oshkosh. We crossed through the Brown Arch, a gateway to all that existed in the world of aviation. As Tom Poberezny noted, the "Brown Arch has been the gateway to countless aviation dreams and accomplishments….millions of people have walked under this arch to discover the innovation, imagination, and craftsmanship" that could be found here in Oshkosh.

Times have changed, the AirVenture grounds have expanded. But the culture, the camaraderie, the volunteerism, the impact have remained the same…because of you! You have helped us nurture an environment in which innovation and entrepreneurialism soars. You have helped us create a passionate community, as strong throughout the year in all parts of the world as it is when we all come back together in Oshkosh.

This year, we will dedicate this legacy - we will remember in perpetuity the impact of Oshkosh by dedicating the Brown Arch as "The Gateway to Aviation." The plaza has been leveled to accommodate bricks; the vision of a biplane, with the Compass Rose comprising the cowling and propeller, and the NOAA marker reminding us of the distance between Oshkosh and the birthplace of aviation, Kitty Hawk.

We invite you to "leave your mark" permanently in Oshkosh - to purchase a tribute brick upon which you can inscribe your own message, or place your company Logo. If you decide before July 12th, your brick and inscription will be in place by this year's AirVenture. And, if you decide to purchase a full brick measuring 2'x2', you may select the location of your brick!

Please visit the web site for more information and to select and reserve your brick. As with all EAA opportunities, your commitment may be pledged over time.

I hope to see you on July 26 at the Brown Arch for the dedication ceremony - 1:30 PM - at the Gateway to Aviation. Feel free to call Elissa Lines direct at 920-426-6101 if you have any questions.

YOUNG EAGLES CELEBRITY GOLF CLASSIC
It's back! The Young Eagles Celebrity Golf Classic, presented by Club Glove, will be held on Friday, July 31, at Lawsonia Golf Course-a short 25 miles from EAA. Buses will take you away from the AirVenture site for a great day of golf on a landmark course with some of aviation's most notable flyers and other golfing greats. The event benefits EAA's Young Eagles and youth programs. For information, go to www.airventure.org/golfclassic/ and sign up your foursome! Golfers will return to AirVenture grounds in time to catch the afternoon air show and join Tom Poberezny for the President's BBQ. We look forward to your joining us!
TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS WHERE TO FIND YOU THIS SUMMER!
If your company or business will be exhibiting at EAA AirVenture 2009, let the world know you’ll be at Oshkosh. Here’s how: We’ve developed glyphs, or “bugs,” for you to use in your print advertising and on your website to declare your presence at AirVenture, and to let your customers and prospects know where they can find you once they arrive. EAA is providing this as a service to its exhibitors and business partners.

Two glyph styles are available: generic or customized with your booth or exhibit location information. The AirVenture glyphs are available as a vector file for print (advertisements, brochures, etc.) and as a bitmapped file for web or e-mail applications.

EAA AIRVENTURE LOGO/GLYPH USAGE
Partner GlyphsThe terms "EAA", "AirVenture", "EAA AirVenture Oshkosh," and all its variations are trademarks of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc. These names, marks, and related logos and designs are made available here for the express use of EAA AirVenture exhibitors in their marketing and promotional efforts in relation to the AirVenture event.

Any other uses of these logos must be approved by EAA in writing in advance of that usage. Uses that imply endorsement or sponsorship of any product, service, or media outlet are strictly prohibited. These logos must be used in their entirety. No alterations are allowed. The customized design provides an area to accommodate the exhibit booth number or location.

Downloading and use of these copyrighted images implies acceptance of the above restrictions. Any other questions may be directed to Mike DiFrisco, EAA Marketing, at 920-426-6515. http://www.airventure.org/partners/glyphs.html

AROUND THE GROUNDS
You’ve been hearing quite a bit about the AirVenture site plan, and we continue to post updates on our website. This site plan project will show immediate changes in 2009, but there will be even more in store for years to follow. EAA facilities manager Steve Taylor gives an inside look at what’s going on in his blog titled “Steve’s AirVenture Site Blog.” Steve is right on the front lines of the day-to-day projects and changes on the grounds. He has been blogging since early November, and you can read his blog by going to http://airventuresiteupdate.blogspot.com.
SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
There are still a limited number of sponsorship opportunities for locations and activities during AirVenture 2009, but those openings are vanishing quickly. We encourage acting now to get the extra recognition that comes with AirVenture sponsorship. To find out more on how to raise your company's visibility during the event, contact the EAA Sponsorship Office at sponsorship@eaa.org or 800-236-1025. There are a variety of opportunities available that will fit your company's needs and budget.
WOMENVENTURE 2009 – WILL YOU BE HERE?
WomenVenture is a chance to build camaraderie and to inspire and motivate women of all ages to get engaged in aviation, opening the doors to participation, providing mentors, knowledge, and support. WomenVenture t-shirts will mark women's participation, and women can register their name in the logbook throughout the week of AirVenture at the EAA Welcome Center. Several events will be held throughout the week, with the following activities on Friday, July 31.
  • 8:00 a.m. - WAI celebrity breakfast at the Nature Center
  • 10:30 a.m. - Group photo opportunity at AeroShell Square
  • 3:00 p.m. - All women air show
  • 8:00 p.m. - Theater in the Woods program with leading women in the aviation field

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of what is becoming the largest gathering of women aviators and enthusiasts at the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. Visit www.airventure.org/womenventure for more details, or call 800-236-1025.

EAA RUNWAY 5K
EAA has joined forces with the Oshkosh YMCA to host the third annual EAA Runway 5K - a fun run/walk to benefit the Oshkosh YMCA and EAA joint youth programs, sponsored by Aspen Avionics, Nike, RunAway Shoes, and Festival Foods. Held on the Saturday of AirVenture, August 1, participants of all ages will walk or run the 3.1 mile route around "EAA's North 40" on Wittman Road. For more information and to pre-register for the run, visit www.airventure.org/run or call 800-236-1025.
BE PART OF AVIATION’S GREATEST GATHERING NIGHT!
EAA AirVenture is also a great opportunity to join the aviation community and support the next generation of flight-and your future customers. The annual Gathering of Eagles fundraiser in the EAA AirVenture Museum is a terrific event. The funds raised at the Gathering support historic preservation, youth education, and the inspirational endeavors that prepare youth of all backgrounds to become the aviators, engineers, innovators, and dreamers of tomorrow. Programs such as EAA's Young Eagles help ensure that our passion for flight and the can-do spirit tied to aviation are passed to our youth. Through the years, Gathering of Eagles has become an event that brings together every segment of the aviation community, from pilots and personalities to the world's top aviation companies and leaders. There are two ways you can be part of this tremendous event: Through the purchase of tickets and tables, and through the donation of valuable items used for the night's auctions. You can join the aviation visionaries by contacting EAA's Development Office at 800-236-1025 or at development@eaa.org. Last year's event sold out well before the start of AirVenture, so don't delay in making your plans. Complete information will be posted on the web at http://www.airventure.org/gathering/.

AirVenture's official daily newspaper EAA AirVenture Today will be published from Sunday, July 26 through Sunday, August 2, providing convention and industry news and features to tens of thousands of attendees every day. Exhibitors/advertisers are invited to pre-submit news/product releases for possible inclusion in the publication. All submissions are judged on their news value to readers. This is not a place for advertisements disguised as news releases, and EAA AirVenture Today reserves the right to reject submissions it determines to be void of any real news value.

If you wish to pre-submit material, here is what we need:

  • All releases must be submitted electronically via e-mail (Microsoft Word is preferred, however please save to the older program version, NOT the ".docx" version.) Plain text is also acceptable.

GOT NEWS? LET US KNOW
It isn't just EAA that makes news at AirVenture - dozens of companies have plenty to talk about as they bring their latest products and innovations to Oshkosh and showcase them to the aviation world. EAA welcomes your news releases and other updates at editorial@eaa.org. In addition, if you're an exhibitor or partner company, copies of your news releases and media kits can be dropped off at Press Headquarters, just north of the new FAA control tower. There are more than 700 journalists from around the world at the event who are looking for news and background information!
DON’T FORGET ABOUT HOUSING
With all the activity at EAA AirVenture each year, you will want a place that's close and comfortable to recharge your batteries each night. EAA Camp Scholler is available for EAA members and their parties during AirVenture. If you're not joining us in Camp Scholler, the old adage, the earlier, the better applies when securing accommodations. The best place to start is the Oshkosh Housing Hotline at 920-235-3007 or online at http://www.oshkoshcvb.org/eaa.cfm. The listings include hotels, dormitories, campgrounds, and private housing. Other possible resources are the Fox Cities (Appleton) Convention and Visitors Bureau at www.foxcities.org or 800-236-6673, or the Fond du Lac Convention and Visitors Bureau at www.fdl.com or 800-937-9123.
HEY, WHAT’S COMING TO OSHKOSH?
That’s the question we get most often at this time of year. Highlights for 2009 include:
  • Virgin Galactic’s WhiteKnightTwo makes its world debut as part of Monday’s opening-day air show when it arrives overhead. The future civilian space launch vehicle will also fly Tuesday and Thursday with up-close viewing opportunities on the ground each day until its departure flight during the Saturday air show.
  • The world’s biggest passenger jet - the Airbus A380 - will be dominating the grounds from the time it arrives on Tuesday until departure on Friday with flight demonstrations on both days.
  • U.S. Airways Flight 1549 cockpit crew appearances by Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles.
  • Doobie Brothers will kick things off with a post-air show concert on Monday, July 27 presented by Ford Motor Company, while comedian/ventriloquist Jeff Dunham returns to Oshkosh on Saturday, August 1 presented by RotorWay International.
  • "Fly For Life" program with weeklong events recognizing the important contributions of general aviation worldwide.
  • Concorde’s 40th anniversary celebration and reunion of the 1980s-90s Concorde participants.
  • Canada’s 100th Anniversary of Flight featuring Lancaster bomber, Tiger Moth, and more.
  • 1909 Wright 'B' Flyer replica, an aircraft that represents the first air racers 100 years ago.
  • 80th anniversary of the Pietenpol aircraft, the 60th anniversary of the T-28 trainer, and 50th year of the Cessna 150.
