A Vision for the Future AirVenture Site Plans
Visitors to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2009 (July 27 - August 2) saw changes all around the grounds, a result of the first 11 months' work on a 10-year, multimillion-dollar program to comprehensively redesign and upgrade the AirVenture site.
Enhancements that were in place for the 2009 event included: a revised layout providing for more efficient navigation of the site; new pathways and roadways, and better separation of pedestrians and vehicles; new wayfinding towers, signs, and assistants; improved tram-service schedules; more shady rest areas; upgraded shower and flush-bathroom facilities; and expanded wireless Internet access.
For 2010 visitors, there are more changes on the way that will add convenience and comfort to the AirVenture experience. Here's what to expect: Click on the links at right to learn more about the site-enhancement program.
The teams of EAA staff, volunteers, and contractors designing and carrying out all these improvements has been, and will continue to be, bound by a prime directive: significantly upgrade the site’s configuration and facilities while preserving AirVenture’s unique and compelling culture.
Accordingly, six major principles of this site-enhancement program are driving every construction decision:
- Culture – Continue to reflect the core values and attributes of EAA members, their passions, and the spirit of aviation.
- Safety – Enhance attendees' safety by incorporating restricted-vehicle zones and thoroughfares that separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
- Quality – Improve amenities such as camping facilities, restrooms, shade, and relaxation areas in keeping with modern-day expectations.
- Convenience – Make the site easier to navigate and traverse using better site layout, roadways, wayfinding aids, and tram services.
- Fun and interesting – Provide participants a wider array of evening-activity venues, more opportunities for social interaction, and expanded educational exhibits.
- Growth – Address current and future demand for additional exhibit space and upgraded visitor amenities.
